An Introduction

Bonsai are the same as any other growing plant – they respond to the seasons. Thus what you do is respond to nature; if it is warm and your bonsai grow, you trim or prune them; if it is cold and frosty and you have these precious trees in small pots, you protect them.

The seasons referred to here are those of the Western Maritime climatic zone of the Northern hemisphere, specifically the U.K. and Northern Europe. Readers in other climatic regions will need to re-adjust accordingly.
